The Assistant Director of Nursing (ADON) at The Commons on St. Anthony oversees the day-to-day functions of the nursing department, in accordance with current rules, regulations, and guidelines under the guidance of the Director of Nursing and the facility Administrator. The ADON ensures that residents receive the highest degree of quality care at all times.

 

Pay Range: $100,000.00 - $110,000.00 annually

Schedule: Monday - Friday 8:00am - 4:30pm 

 

The ADON must have the flexibility to cover shifts as needed, including some evenings, nights, weekends, or holidays.

Responsibilities

Job Duties Specific to This Position:

  • With the Director, coordinates nursing practices to assure the delivery of safe, effective, and efficient care and services by staff.
  • Ensures resident care plans are developed, communicated, and followed through.
  • Actively rounds on all floors daily. Oversees clinical practice managers and delegates responsibility fairly. May provide direct nursing care if necessary.
  • Supports residents and families as needed.
  • Collaborates with the Administrator, nursing team, and medical providers to maintain or improve existing processes and standards of practice.
  • Ensures the facility complies with DOH and other applicable regulations at all times and takes corrective action when needed.
  • Responsible for incident reporting and related record keeping. Ensures the completion of accurate recording, investigation, and tracking of all incident reports for the facility. Submits incident report information on the Department of Health website as required and provides follow-up to completion, including correction plans.
  • Plays an active role in the reporting of adverse outcomes for residents for the regulatory process.
  • Ensures the prompt investigation and resolution of complaints from clients, families, physicians, contractors, DOH, and employees.
  • With the Director, the ADON provides support to DOH during annual surveys or other third-party audits.
  • Monitors nursing service staff to assure that they follow the established safety regulations in the use of equipment and supplies.
  • Ensures staff receive supervision and education in care delivery, safety, aseptic, infection control, and isolation techniques based on their role.
  • Collaborates with the interdisciplinary team in developing safety and best practice standards for the Nursing Service department.
  • In the absence of the Administrator or Director of Nursing, directs the resident care policies established by the facility.

Qualifications

  • 8+ years’ experience in an acute care, long-term care, or similar facility is desired.
  • 5+ years’ experience in nursing management or leadership desired.
  • Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing. BS in Nursing or related field required.
  • Current New York State RN license and registration in good standing.
  • CPR certified.
  • Current knowledge of best practice nursing standards and the care planning process.
  • Proven patient assessment and clinical skills.
  • Knowledge of applicable laws, guidelines, and NY DOH regulations.
  • Ability to manage, motivate, and guide staff while carrying out the duties of an RN.
  • Ability and knowledge to respond in emergency situations.
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills, including the ability to communicate effectively with patients, residents, and families from diverse backgrounds who may have physical, sensory, and mental impairments.
  • Strategic planning capabilities.
  • Proven decision-making, organizational, and time management skills.
  • Ability to analyze problems, plan resolution strategies, implement solutions, and evaluate outcomes.
  • Effective conflict resolution skills.
  • Ability to be available 24/7 to handle on-call responsibilities.
  • Proficient in MS Office, EMR, and able to learn new software rapidly.
